Make a holiday mixtape
The holidays are the one time of year everybody already agrees a mixtape is a gift. Make one for the family group, one for the friend you won't see this year, or one for the person who hosts.
When
Thanksgiving through New Year's. Send it the week before so it plays during, not after.
What to put on it
- ♪The holiday song your house played every year, whoever started it.
- ♪A non-holiday song that is secretly a holiday song for your family.
- ♪Something for the drive there. Something for the dishes after.
- ♪For a friend far away: the song you'd play if they were in the room.
- ♪One new song for this year, so the tape isn't only nostalgia.
The letter
Name who the tape is for and what this year was. Everyone knows what this year was; they'll want to hear it from you.
How it works
- 1. Name the tape. “For Dad.” “Road trip ’26.” “Songs I couldn’t say out loud.” The title is the cover, so say what it is.
- 2. Add the songs, up to 20. Search any song, tap to add. Write a liner note on each one if you want: why this song, why them, why now. The notes are the gift.
- 3. Write the letter. Every tape has a J-card, the fold-out card in a cassette case. Yours holds a letter only they will read, in your words, signed by you.
- 4. Flip it to a secret link and send. One link, sendable by text, email, or carrier pigeon screenshot. It is never on your profile and search engines cannot find it. Only the person holding the link can open it.
They open it like a letter: your title, your note, then the songs in your order. Every track plays a 30-second preview, and one tap opens it in their own player. No app, no account needed to listen. When they're done they can send a thanks back, or make you a whole tape in return.
A holiday tape gets played on the drive, in the kitchen, and again next year.
Start this tape, always freeAbout ten minutes. No app to install.
