Make a road trip mixtape
The road trip tape has a shape: leaving, the long middle, arriving. Make it for the people in the car, send the link the night before, and let the first song be the one you pull out of the driveway to.
When
The night before you leave. Or after, as the record of the trip.
What to put on it
- ♪The leaving song, loud.
- ♪Something for hour three, when nobody's talking and that's fine.
- ♪A song from the place you're going.
- ♪The one everybody in the car knows the words to.
- ♪The arriving song. It should feel like arriving.
The letter
Who's in the car, where you're headed, and one thing you want to happen on the way.
How it works
- 1. Name the tape. “For Dad.” “Road trip ’26.” “Songs I couldn’t say out loud.” The title is the cover, so say what it is.
- 2. Add the songs, up to 20. Search any song, tap to add. Write a liner note on each one if you want: why this song, why them, why now. The notes are the gift.
- 3. Write the letter. Every tape has a J-card, the fold-out card in a cassette case. Yours holds a letter only they will read, in your words, signed by you.
- 4. Flip it to a secret link and send. One link, sendable by text, email, or carrier pigeon screenshot. It is never on your profile and search engines cannot find it. Only the person holding the link can open it.
They open it like a letter: your title, your note, then the songs in your order. Every track plays a 30-second preview, and one tap opens it in their own player. No app, no account needed to listen. When they're done they can send a thanks back, or make you a whole tape in return.
After the trip, this is the souvenir.
Start this tape, always freeAbout ten minutes. No app to install.
