Make a mixtape for a friend far away

Texting is how distance survives. A tape is how it gets closed for an hour. Ten songs from the old days, ten from your life now, and a letter that says what a text can't.

When

They moved. You moved. Their birthday in a time zone you keep getting wrong. A hard week on either end.

What to put on it

  • ♪The song from the place you both used to be. Name the place.
  • ♪What you're listening to this month, so they know your life now.
  • ♪A song that sounds like the city they're in, from the outside.
  • ♪The song you'd put on if they walked in right now.
  • ♪An inside joke in song form.

The letter

Write it like a letter, because it is one. Tell them something that happened this week that they'd have been there for.

How it works

  1. 1. Name the tape. “For Dad.” “Road trip ’26.” “Songs I couldn’t say out loud.” The title is the cover, so say what it is.
  2. 2. Add the songs, up to 20. Search any song, tap to add. Write a liner note on each one if you want: why this song, why them, why now. The notes are the gift.
  3. 3. Write the letter. Every tape has a J-card, the fold-out card in a cassette case. Yours holds a letter only they will read, in your words, signed by you.
  4. 4. Flip it to a secret link and send. One link, sendable by text, email, or carrier pigeon screenshot. It is never on your profile and search engines cannot find it. Only the person holding the link can open it.

They open it like a letter: your title, your note, then the songs in your order. Every track plays a 30-second preview, and one tap opens it in their own player. No app, no account needed to listen. When they're done they can send a thanks back, or make you a whole tape in return.

They'll play it on the walk home. Different streets, same tape.
